1 Peter 5:5-6
5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”a]”>[a]
6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honour.
8 No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good,
and this is what he requires of you:
To do what is right, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God.
5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.a]”>[a] Because of the joyb]”>[b] awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honour beside God’s throne.
24 Avoid all perverse talk;
Stay away from corrupt speech.
Mentoring the called
17 As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend.
2 Timothy 2:2
2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.
5 Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.
Let those with understanding receive guidance
1 Corinthians 11:1
11 1 And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.
2 Corinthians 13:11
11 Dear brothers and sisters,a]”>[a] I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
Literal interpretation of the Word
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.
Prologue: Christ, the Eternal Word
1 In the beginning, the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,a]”>[a]
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.b]”>[b]
7 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
11 And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
